MISSISSAUGA, March 22, 2021 – Revera, in partnership with other industry leaders, announced today that the Senior Living CaRES Fund (the CaRES Fund) is now accepting new applications. The Fund also welcomes two new partners, Southbridge Care Homes and OMNI Health Care, who will join the Fund’s founding partners, Chartwell, Revera, Extendicare and Sienna to recognize the dedication of senior living employees.

Across the country, senior living sector workers have led the effort to fight and prevent the spread of COVID-19 at long term care and retirement homes. The CaRES Fund, established in May 2020, recognizes that senior living sector workers are heroes, and provides one-time financial assistance of up to $10,000 to Canadian employees of senior living operators. The fund was established in recognition of the courage and dedication our frontline workers have displayed while caring for our most vulnerable.

“Our employees have exceeded all expectations, displaying humility and compassion in their care for our residents. Their everyday acts of heroism will be remembered and recognized for years to come. The CaRES Fund is a testament to their service,” says Thomas G. Wellner, CEO and President of Revera.

The fund will be accepting its first quarter of applications from March 22 to April 9, with future application periods in the coming months. To date, the CaRES Fund has awarded more than $2.3 million to 679 senior living workers across the country.

“Our frontline staff have been our guiding light through this pandemic,” says Hazel McCallion, Revera’s Chief Elder Officer. “It is their hard work and resilience that has allowed us to fight COVID-19 in our homes. It is incredible to see the industry join forces and continue to recognize their heroism.”

Revera and the CaRES founding partners also welcome two new partners, platinum sponsor, Southbridge Care Homes, and gold sponsor, OMNI Health Care. With their support, the CaRES Fund looks forward to recognizing the dedication of more senior living sector workers, who are working tirelessly to care for our seniors.

An Initiative for the Future
The CaRES Fund intends to continue its legacy post-COVID-19 through the establishment of a foundation aimed at continuing to support employees in the senior living sector who are experiencing hardship. As the initiative grows in size, and future contributors, it will always be rooted in the history of COVID-19 so that Canadians will never forget the heroic contributions of senior living sector employees.
