Holiday Card Challenge

Sharing the Gift of Creativity this Holiday Season
For many of us, December marks a festive time of year. Whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa or simply rejoice in the spirit of the season, it’s a time of reflection and joy. For Revera, like many of us, it also means mailing out hundreds of cards, across Canada and beyond, as a way of wishing those we care about the best of the season.

To help us create beautiful holiday cards we held our second annual Holiday Card Challenge. We invited our residents, many of whom are talented artists, to design a card that captured the sentiment of the Holidays.
“Engaging in the creative process helps build a sense of engagement and self-expression.”
This year, we received more than 200 entries from across the country, with paintings and drawings fitting into two broad categories: winter scenes and landscapes, and Christmas or other religious themes. Once submitted, the images were shared anonymously with staff, who voted for their favorites.

In the end, six artworks were chosen, including two from Oakville, Ontario resident Evelyn, who painted a poinsettia and a winter scene as part of her residence’s art therapy group.

Another winner, Beth from Newmarket, Ontario, is relatively new to painting, and only began honing her brush skills after joining her residence’s painting class, as a creative form of expression, and to try her hand at something new. Her painting: a festive snowman.

Here are this year's winners.
We also used the winning artwork for our holiday ecard, check out the video below.
